Normalization
Definition
Normalization is used to convert external source values prior to their integration in the Service Manager database.
EndDefinition
- The aim of the processing is to standardize external data in line with data in the existing repository, i.e. reference tables, catalogs.
- It can be performed when running an integration model or upstream during the preimport processing.
Examples
- Standardization of Hewlett Packard data:
- Rules are defined for the Manufacturer field in the Equipment connector.
- They will replace the values, Hewlett P and Hewlett Packard with the value stored in the Service Manager database, i.e. HP.
- They apply to all integration models built using this connector.
- Standardization of titles:
- Rules are defined for the Title field in the Employees connector.
- They will replace the values, Mrs. and Miss with the value stored in the Service Manager database, i.e. Ms.
- They apply to all integration models built using this connector.
Notes
- Normalization rules are defined in integration connector fields.
example Normalization of the Manufacturer field via an integration model using the Equipment connector
- You can modify them by selecting Administration > Integration > Normalization in the menu. This displays all normalization processing run, irrespective of the integration model.
- You can also modify them in the integration models (step 3).
See the detailed procedure.
Screens description
Normalization table
Menu access: Administration > Integration > Normalization
Table: Table used by the connector. As a general rule, this is a connector related table, i.e. reference table, catalog.
Field: Table field where normalization rules are applied.
Value (Source): Value of the external source.
Reference Value (Destination): Converted value to be integrated in the Service Manager database.
Normalization via the integration model
Access: or
in step 3 of the integration model
Value (Source): Value of the external source.
Reference Value (Destination): Converted value to be integrated in the Service Manager database.
Procedure: How to normalize external source values
Normalization_Procedure
Step 1: Open the Normalization window.
1. Select Administration > Integration > Integration Models in the menu to open the integration model.
2. Click Next to proceed to step 3.
3. Click or
next to the field to be normalized.
: One or more normalization values have been specified for the field.
: No normalization value has been specified for the field.
The Normalization window will appear.
Step 2: Define the normalization values.
1. Enter the external source value in the Value (Source) column.
2. Enter the new value to be integrated in the Service Manager database in the Reference Value (Destination) column.
3. Click Save.
4. Close the window.
You will return to the list of properties for the integration model fields. will appear next to the Source field.
Add a normalization value for the field
