Authentication ensures secure access to the Desktop Studio by verifying the identity of users logging in. Users must have an account defined on the Self Help server that is associated with one or more domains.

Notes

• To access the Desktop Studio, users must install the EVSelfHelp Studio.exe executable on their workstation. This is found in the Self Help installation folder.
• Authentication enables users to access the Desktop Studio. You define user access rights to the Desktop Studio and the functionalities users are authorized to access using admin mode in the Desktop Studio.
• Access and authentication for the Desktop Studio can also be performed in the Online Studio.
   

Component versions

• A message will appear when logging in to the Desktop Studio if the version of the Self Help server is different from the version of the Desktop Studio installed on the client workstation.
  • If the version of the Self Help server is more recent than the version of the Desktop Studio, an upgrade of the Desktop Studio will be proposed.
  • If the version of the Desktop Studio is more recent than the version of the Self Help server, a message will ask you to confirm the opening of the Desktop Studio. No upgrade will be proposed.

• You can check the version of the Desktop Studio:
  • At the bottom of the login pane.
  • By selecting Desktop Studio > Help > About EV Self Help Studio in the menu.

• The version of the Self Help server is displayed in the Desktop Studio when you select Help > Show EV Self Help Server Version in the menu.

Login pane

Choose your server access in the list: List of all Self Help servers configured on the writer's workstation.

Manage : Used to access options for managing the Self Help servers.  See the procedure.
         

Login: User login, preceded by the domain name if the user is authorized to access several domains.

• You can access other domains in the Desktop Studio by selecting File > Change Domain in the menu.

Password: Password for accessing the Self Help server.

• Caution: The Password field is case-sensitive.

Remember Password: Used to specify if the password should automatically be loaded (box is checked) or not (box is not checked) when users next log in to the Desktop Studio. If the box is not checked, users must enter their password again.

Studio...: The version of the Desktop Studio installed on the client workstation.

Properties of the Self Help server

Access: Manage  > Configure this server access

Name of the server access: Name of the Self Help server.

• This is the local name on the workstation where the Desktop Studio is installed.
• There is no impact on the server itself or on the other workstations. Users can access a given server using the same login on two different workstations.

Server address: URL corresponding to the location of the Self Help server.

• The server address must not contain the protocol (http(s)://).
• The localhost value indicates a server hosted on the local machine.
   

Advanced parameters for server connection

• Protocol: Type of protocol supported by the Self Help server.
  • Select one of the values, http or https. https is a secure protocol used for SaaS-based servers installed by the EasyVista) CMC team.

• Port: Number of the Self Help server port.
  • Default value: 443.

• Path: Path to the Self Help servlet on the Self Help server.
   

Parameters to connect to the Internet access proxy server

• Access to the proxy server:
  • Global: 
  • Direct: 
  • Manual: Specify the proxy server address and the port used.
  • Auto-Config Proxy (.pac) script: Access is performed by running a PAC script in JavaScript. This script contains the proxy configuration options.

• Activate the proxy authentication (Note: Only for Manual and Auto-Config Proxy access): Enter the user login and password for accessing the proxy server.

• Address of the proxy server configuration script (Note: Only for Auto-Config Proxy access): Location of the PAC proxy configuration script.

Procedures

How to run the Desktop Studio via user authentication

Prerequisites

The EVSelfHelp Studio.exe executable must be installed on your workstation. It is found in the Self Help installation folder.

Step 1: Run the executable.

1. Run the EVSelfHelp Studio.exe executable on your workstation.
The login pane will appear.

Step 2: Select the Self Help server.

1. Select the Self Help server where you want to work, from the drop-down list.
A search will automatically be run to retrieve the server address.

2. Enter your login and password.

Note: If you are authorized to access more than one domain:

• You can add the relevant domain name as a prefix to your user login.

  example  WIKI/{your_login}

• You can enter your login and password and click OK.
  The list of domains you are authorized to access will appear.
           
  • Select the domain you want.
  • Click Connect.
     

Step 3: Access the Desktop Studio.

1. Click Access the Studio.
 The Desktop Studio will appear for the selected domain.
    

2. (optional) Select File > Change Domain in the menu to select another domain if required.

How to create an access to a Self Help server

Step 1: Run the executable.

1. Run the EVSelfHelp Studio.exe executable on your workstation.
The login pane will appear.

Step 2: Create an access to the Self Help server.

1. You can create a new server access.

• Click Manage .
           
• Select Add a server access.
• Specify the information for the new access to the Self Help server, i.e. server name and address.
• Click Finish.
  The new server access will be created.

2. You can duplicate an existing access to a Self Help server.

• Select the server access from the drop-down list.
• Click Manage .
• Select Copy this server access.

  *The new server access will be created.

  • Its name will be identical to the name of the server access you duplicated, followed by / 2.
  • The new server access will inherit the same values specified for the server access you duplicated.

Step 3 (optional): Configure the server access.

Note: Only if you are required to modify default values.

1. Configure the connection parameters for the Self Help server by specifying each field.  See the description of properties.

2. Click Finish.
