Self Help Online Studio - Projects Menu

This menu is used to import a file containing metadata, or attributes, to a Self Help project.

  • The metadata was previously exported in a CSV file in edit mode in the Desktop Studio. This is used to view and modify the metadata easily in Excel. 
  • The import will update the metadata by propagating it automatically to the relevant content, e.g. project, procedures, resources, etc.


  • Metadata import files must in CSV format.
  • You export metadata in the language selected in the Explorer pane in the Desktop Studio in edit mode.


  • To avoid errors in metadata names, you must not create import files manually. You must export them by using the Export function in the Desktop Studio.

Import attributes sub-menu

This displays the list of metadata files imported to Self Help with the date and status of the operation.

  • You can sort the list by clicking one of the column headers.
  • The number of tasks in progress is displayed at the top of the list.
  • You can group files using a specific criterion by clicking the Group By link at the top of the list.
  • You can apply a filter to the names of files by clicking the Filter link at the top of the list.
  • Click the name of a file to see its details.

Error management

The following errors may be detected when a metadata file is imported.

Procedure: How to manage metadata in a Self Help project

Step 1: Export the metadata.

1. Open the Desktop Studio in edit mode.

2. Display the Explorer pane.

3. Click Select language drop down.png in the toolbar of the Explorer pane to select the export language.

  • Select the source language of the Self Help project to process non-translatable metadata.
  • Select the first language of the Self Help project to process translatable metadata. You must repeat the same actions for each language of the Self Help project.

4. Right-click the Self Help project in the tree structure and select Export > Get metadata.

5. Save the file in a folder.

  • The metadata will be exported to a CSV file in the selected language.

  • Its name indicates the name of the Self Help project and the language used.

    example  Wiki_metadata_en_EN  ==> Wiki project in English

Step 2: Modify the metadata in the CSV file.

Note: The CSV file contains metadata for a given language.

1. Open the CSV file in Excel.

2. Make the required modifications.

3. Save the file in CSV format.

Step 3: Import the metadata to the Self Help project.

Note: Import will perform automatically in the CSV file language.

1. Open the Online Studio.

2. Select Projects > Import Attributes in the menu.

3. Click + Import Attributes.

4. Select the CSV file you want to import and click Import.

  • A task in progress will appear.
  • Once the task is completed, its status will indicate if the import was successful or not.

5. Correct the file if its status is Error. Run the import again.

Step 4: Check that the new metadata was correctly propagated.

1. Click the name of the imported file and check the number of rows processed.

2. Open the Desktop Studio in edit mode.

  • Open the Self Help project.
  • Display the Properties view.
  • Check that the modified metadata was correctly propagated to the relevant procedures in the Self Help project.
  • Non-translatable metadata will be propagated to procedures irrespective of the language.
  • Translatable metadata will be propagated to procedures in the CSV file language.

Step 5 (optional): Process translatable metadata in a multilingual Self Help project.

1. Select each languages of the Self Help project by clicking Select language drop down.png in the Explorer pane.

2. Repeat steps 1, 2, 3.
