EV Reach - IT Process Automation Tutorial - Activating Windows Remotely

Objectives

In this tutorial, you will learn to use EV Reach's Process Automation framework to activate Windows remotely by silently calling to the cscript process and the slmgr.vbs script.

Prerequisites

  • This activation method will only work for Server 2008/Windows Vista and higher.

  • You will need access to the full version of EV Reach and its Process Automation framework. If you don’t currently own a valid license, you can download a free version of our remote access software on our website. The 15-day trial is free and no credit card is required.

Step by Step Tutorial

1. Click on Add/Remove. Then Execute Action > Processes > Run a new process.

2. You will now be at the Set Arguments: Run a new process window. We will select the following for each:

Process name: cscript

Process argument string: //B "%windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs" /ipk A12B3-ABCDE-12345-ABCDE-12345 Note: Replace the key after /ipk with your Windows OS key.

Run as type: 0

Run Username: Leave blank

Run as Password: Leave blank

Wait for Completion: True

Wait Timeout (seconds): 30

Kill Process on Time Out: True

Hide Execution Window: True

Click OK after selecting the above.

Note: In this action we are providing the product key to the OS. In step 4 we will repeat the same action but to Activate the OS.

3. We will now select the same action again. Click on Add/Remove. Then Execute Action > Processes > Run a new process.

4. You will now be at the Set Arguments: Run a new process window. We will select the following for each:

Process name: cscript

Process argument string: //B "%windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs" /ato

Run as type: 0

Run Username: Leave blank

Run as Password: Leave blank

Wait for Completion: True

Wait Timeout (seconds): 60

Kill Process on Time Out: True

Hide Execution Window: True

Click OK after selecting the above.

5. Your Action module should look like the below. Click Ok and proceed to run the Scope Action according to your requirements.
