EV Reach Console - The User Interface

EV Reach has a flexible user interface organized into sections and panels which you can easily re-arrange according to your needs. The interface will also adjust to your current feature selection so that only the relevant commands are displayed at any time, allowing for an uncluttered interface.

You will also learn how to activate a full screen mode, work with floating views, or save view layouts.

My Devices Panel

Use the My Devices panel to create a hierarchy of favorite remote machines for quick and easy access.

Search Panel

The Search panel is the quickest way to access the remote administration features available for a user, machine or group.

On-Demand Assist Panel

This panel is used to gain management access to machines over the internet. To do so, click on the Send a request link to generate an email that contains the necessary information to start a remote assistance session from anywhere.

Note: This panel is only visible once a EV Reach Server with Gateway Service has been implemented.

Console Window

The Console window displays information, warning and error messages as you are working with EV Reach.

The content of the console window may be useful to our support team to resolve issues. If you are requested for the Console window messages, you can easily export its content by right-clicking within it and selecting Save log into a file.

Managing Your Workspace

EV Reach RC provides many flexible options for creating a work space to view and manage remote connections. Use the Monitoring View or Float View to create a dashboard or remote control connections. Save customized work spaces for easy reconnecting to important resources.

Working with Multiple Sessions

EV Reach RC’s tabbed interface allows multi-screen monitoring and control over many computers at once. Open as many tabbed connections as needed and easily switch between them. Mix and match different connection protocols with different tabbed views.

To add a new connection tab, simply click on the add button located in the connection tab area:

If multiple tabs exists, EV Reach exposes the Monitoring View automatically. This view allows you to monitor the screen activity and performance counters of all tabs simultaneously. The Monitoring View can be selected by click on the F2 shortcut key (this is configurable in the options), or clicking on the corresponding button in the control bar:

Floating Views

You can float any connection tab into an independent window, and move it anywhere. This is useful if you have multiple monitors and wish to have different connection on each of them.

To float a connection tab, select it and:

  • Use the Float View button in the command bar:

  • Right-click on the connection tab and select Float View

  • If you are in the Monitoring View, right click on any thumbnail and select Float View

Managing multiple floating Windows

When you have several floating windows, you can automatically arrange them using the Float View drop down options. These options will automatically float or un-float all windows or arrange the currently floating windows in a customized, specific arrangement.

Remote Control Layouts

EV Reach layout files allow you to save your current connections and window positions. Layout controls can be found in the Command Bar on the Main Tab:

Changing the View Scaling Mode

When connected to a computer, Change the View mode or Scaling to best fit your workspace. While connected to the computer, go to the Command tab and locate the View Mode button:

View Mode Settings

The following options are available for changing the view mode.

  • No Scaling / Auto Scroll- This setting is identical to No Scaling except EV Reach will automatically scroll based upon the where the mouse cursor is.
  • Scale to Fit Aspect Ratio - This setting will scale the view to fit the EV Reach window while respecting the aspect ratio of the target screen.
  • Scale to Fit On Reduction - This setting is identical to Scale to Fit Aspect Ratio except the screen will only be scaled when the EV Reach window is smaller than the target computers screen.

Full-Screen Mode

EV Reach RC sessions can also be set to full-screen mode. The full-screen button can be located on the Command Bar or on a Connection Tab.

Session Controls

Once a remote control session is active, multiple options can be turned on or off using the Sessions Controls area:

Disable Client ControlsDisabling Client Controls will stop the target mouse and keyboard from working.
Curtain ModeDisables the remote screen viewing of the operation being performed by the operator. See Find out more.
Observe Only ModeObserve Only mode will allow you to observe the remote control session only. The technicians keyboard and mouse inputs will not be sent over to the target computer.

Observe Only can be enabled before initiating a remote control session in the Connect To window.

Enable Layered Window CaptureAllows the capturing of special layered windows on the remote desktop (windows that includes transparency). This option is enabled by default, however if you are experiencing excessive mouse cursor blinking on the remote machine, disable this option.
Mouse Scrolls RemotelyEnable to redirect the operator's mouse scrolling actions to the remote machine. Disable to keep mouse scrolling on the operator machine.
Clipboard TransferEnabling Clipboard Transfers will allow the operator to share the clipboard contents for copy/paste and file transferring.

MacOS Support"> When remoting to a MacOS system, use the Windows Key in place of the Command Key. For example, use WINDOWS + P to paste in the RC Session.

Optimization Settings

EV Reach RC uses several different methods to provide the best possible experience for the EV Reach operator. EV Reach RC sessions use compression algorithms to ensure proper bandwidth usage.

Optimizing before you connect

If you would like to change settings that affect performance on slower networks before you begin a remote control connection, use the Connection Settings Tab.

Changing optimization settings during a connection

Once you have established a connection, you can change the optimization settings using the Optimization Tab in the Command Bar.

Monitoring Remote Control performance

In the Optimization tab, click the Turn On button to activate the Connection Monitor.

The Optimization Graph will tell you the frame rate (updates per second), the compression rate and the transfer rate.

Working with the My Devices Panel

The My Devices panel is used to create your own hierarchy of internal and external computers for easy access. Once configured, simply double click on a computer object to start a remote control session, or right click on it for additional support options.

To configure the My Device Panel, review the My Favorite Devices article.

Setting the Double-Click Default Action

Double clicking on a computer object initiate a remote control session. By default, the EV Reach Remote Control access protocol is used, however this can be configured to the protocol of your choice.

A double-click default action can be configured on a per machine or per container basis. Select the machine, or the container to configure, right-click on it and select Set Default Action:

Use the drop-down menu to set the default protocol for that device.

Additional Support Actions

Using the My Devices panel, you can perform additional support actions without the need to initiate a remote control session. To do so, right-click on a computer or group of computers and select the desired action:

  • Properties - The favorite's properties
  • Power Options- View the status of a Windows based computers and control its power state. This includes Intel vPro options.

  • Task Manager- Start the EV Reach Advanced Task Manager.

Application Information & Main Settings

Click on the Application button located at the top left corner of the application to view product information and gain access to the main configuration items of EV Reach.

Product and Account Information

This section displays general product and license information and includes the following options:

  • Click on Refresh in the License Information to reload license information from our servers. This is useful in case the product edition or other license information has changed.
  • Click on Sign-Out to release the license and sign-in to another machine.
  • If a new version of your product is available, you will see a notification bellow the version number (Automatically Check for Updates must be enabled).

Visual Theme

You can change the color style for the interface by accessing the Color Theme (Light/Dark) options in the Product Information area.

The Application Menu

  • General Settings - Opens the configuration window of EV Reach.

  • EV Reach Agent Manager  - Opens the EV Reach Agent Manager to view and manage the EV Reach Client Agent on remote machines.
  • Credential Manager - Opens the Credential Manager to view and manager alternate credentials.
  • Manage EV Reach Objects - Select this action to pre-configure or manage Software Installation Packages, Script Packages, Custom Actions and Custom Controls.

Accessing the EV Reach Features

Use the main feature selector located on the left of the application to set the primary focus to the desired feature:

  • Welcome Page - Access to support and tutorial resources from our site. Software updates and other important information will also be displayed there. This feature requires internet connectivity.
  • Administration / Diagnostics - Active Directory account management & search. Behind-the-scenes support and management of your users, computers and servers.
  • Process Automation / Report - Inventory, global change management, compliance scanning.
  • Remote Control / Monitor - Remote desktop access / command prompt access / telnet access to your systems.

EV Reach Tools

EV Reach offers a set of tools which can be started independently from the main program. Single-click on a sub-feature to start it.

  • Task Manager - Open the EV Reach Task Manager to monitor and control the running processes and performance counters on a local or remote machine.
  • Run As - Start a program on a remote machine.
  • Remote CMD - Open a Remote CMD window on a local or remote machine.
  • File Manager – Manage/Transfer files to/from the remote machine.
  • IP Scanner - Scan an IP segment for machines.
  • WMI Explorer – Explore the WMI backend of a remote machine.
  • Send Message - Send a popup message to a single or set of machines.
  • Chat - Open a chat session with a single or set of machines.
