Scripts Manager tool installation

First installation

Step 1: Configure the Master machine (M1).

1. Launch the SetupXWCF.exe file to start the installation.

2. Select the installation path for the Scripts Manager tool.

  • C:\ProgramData: directory for Vista/7 (by default)
  • C:\All Users\Application Data: directory for XP

The Machine configuration window will open.

3. Enter the information.

  • Session in Startup: Check the box if you want to launch automatically the xSession (the Synthetic Monitoring session) when the Master machine (M1) starts.
  • Autologon (Registry): Check the box if you want to save connection information in the Windows Registry.
  • AppsLoad: Used for load test features.
  • Autologout: Check the box if you want to automatically close the Windows session with the xSession.
  • Hook Session Password: By default, seven.

4. Click Validate.

5. Once the installation is complete, the xSession is automatically locked. Enter the password to unlock it.

   If the lock screen disappears, press <Escape>, then launch the Console via the Scripts Manager tool.

The Scripts Manager tool will open.

Step 2: Import the license file.

1. Go to the Console > License menu.

2. Click Send License Request.

3. Send the .itx license file to support@itexis.com to obtain the license key.

4. Once the license file received, click Import New License File and import the file.

Best Practice icon.png  To update the license with additional acquisition, import the file by clicking Update License File.

4. Restart the Console.

Step 3: Configure the database.

   •   Supported versions: Microsoft SQL 2008 to 2016, included SQL Express 2008 to 2016, Standard or Enterprise.

  • Database must be accessible from the network.

1. Go to the Console > Database menu.

2. Configure the database.

  • Check that the database connection is correct by clicking Connection Test.
  • Configure the database mailbox by clicking Mail Configure.
  • Configure the database access by clicking Data Links Utility.
    • Select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server as server name.
    • Select the server and the instance of the database.
    • Click Test Connection.
  • Create tables and SQL procedures by clicking Create Tables.

Step 4: Check the new entries in the Start menu.

Once the installation is complete, new entries will be added in the Start menu.

  • Recorder: Allows to launch the Recorder.
  • Session: Allows to launch the xSession (the Synthetic Monitoring Session).
  • Tools_AppsLoad_Monitoring: Allows to launch multiple RDP Sessions for load testing.
  • Tools_MachineProperties: Allows to update the configuration of the PC.
  • Tools_ScriptManager: Allows to launch the Scripts Manager tool.
  • Tools_DatabaseEdition: Allows to access the database management.
  • Uninstall_AppsMon.bat: Allows to remove the Scripts Manager tool.
  • xServiceRestart: Allows to restart the xService (the Synthetic Monitoring Service).
  • xService_Start: Allows to start the xService.
  • xService_Stop: Allows to stop the xService.

Updating installation

Updating the parent machine

1. Double-click on the new MSI icon on the parent machine.

The values used for the previous version will be displayed.

2. Click Next until the installation will be launched.

3. Once the installation is complete, restart the xSession and the Console.

   If the automatic software update fails, run it manually with the new MSI file.

Updating child machines

You have nothing to do for child machines, everything is automatic. The procedure is identical to that of the Console, but silently.

Once the installation is complete, the xService and the xSession will be automatically restarted.

   The installation only starts when no scenario is running.

Agent installation

Installing the Agents

1. Launch the executable file to start the installtion.

2. Select the installation path, then click Next.

The installation will be running.

3. Select Child machine of, then enter the information.

   Specify the hostname or IP of the parent machine in the Parent Machine field

4. Click Validate.

5. Once the installation is finished, click Close.

Activating licenses on child machines

   You must perform the same license activation procedure on each Agent.

Once the license file is imported, the xSession restarts.

1. Go to the Console > License menu and check that the license has been activated.

2. Go to the Features tab.

3. Click Get Recorder and Get Player to activate the component license on the machine.

If the license supports these components, the status is marked Active.

Managing licenses on child machines

1. Go to the Console > License menu.

  • You will find three tabs for each type of license: User, Player, Recorder.
  • The list of machines using a token is displayed.

2. You can reassign a token to another machine.
