EV Observe - Synthetic Monitoring Module - Install Requirements

The Synthetic Monitoring module requires to install the Scripts Manager tool and the following components:

  • Windows with one of the following versions: Seven, Windows 2003, Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10.
  • Microsoft .NET Framework with one of the following versions: Framework 3.5 SP1, Framework 4.0 and higher.
  • Microsoft SQL Server with one of the following versions: Microsoft SQL 2008 to 2016, including SQL Express 2008 to 2016, Standard and Enterprise.
  • Microsoft Visual Basic with one of the following versions: 2010, 2012 or 2013.
  • Microsoft Visual C++.

Notes

  • To use the Synthetic Monitoring portal, you need to install SQL Server Reporting Service.
  • Microsoft 2008 Express Edition is a free database downloadable. When using it, you must download the Advanced version.
  • Microsoft SQL Server is not incorporated in the installation package to avoid any mixing of language between the database and the OS. You can installed it on any machine including the Master machine (M1).

Caution

  • Databases must be accessible from the network.

Microsoft .NET Framework installation

  • For Windows Seven, the Framework is automatically installed through Windows Update.
  • For Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2, you have to go through the Server Manager and add the features you want.

Microsoft SQL Server installation

Microsoft SQL Server is currently the only database supported. This is where metrics are stored.

If a SQL Server installation is already present on the network and you want to use an existing instance to install the database, go directly to the step Installing the database of the Scripts Manager tool installation procedure.

Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 in standalone mode

1. Choose the computer on which you want to install the database.

   Make sure you have the Microsoft .NET Framework installed on the machine. If not, download it from the Windows Update service.

2. Run the setup program to install SQL Server 2008.

Files will be unzip. The installation procedure will start.

3. Follow the instructions for installation.

Installing Microsoft SQL Express

1. Run the SQL Server Configuration Manager.

2. Select TCP/IP then choose Yes to activate the option.

3. Click OK to save the configuration.

4. Restart the SQL service.

Configuring Basic SQL

1. Run the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

2. Create a new data entry.

The database will be created.

3. Check the client protocol.

Reporting Services installation

   Only when using the Synthetic Monitoring portal

You can install the Reporting Services either at the same time as the database or after with a database already installed.

Installing SQL Server Reporting Service with a database already installed

1. Run the SQL Server Configuration Manager.

2. Add the Reporting Services.

  • Select Add a feature.
  • Select the instance.
  • Select the Reporting Services.
  • Take the default instance, then click Next.
  • Set the account used for the Reporting Services.
  • Select the Install Reporting Services without configuring option.

   Do not select the Send reports... option.

The Reporting Services will be installed.

Installing SQL Server Reporting Service in standalone mode

1. Run the SQL Server Configuration Manager.

2. Configure the Reporting Services.

  • Set the service account used by the Reporting Services.
  • Enter the URL of the virtual directory (keep by default).
  • Set the name of the server.
  • Enter the name of the Reporting Services base (keep the native mode).
  • Specify the type of authentication.
  • Enter the name of the virtual directory for reports.
  • (optional) Specify email settings if you want Reporting Services to send emails.
  • Click Finish.

The Reporting Services will be configured.

3. Run the commands below to check the correct installation of the Reporting Services features.

OCR feature installation

   Make sure you have one of the following items installed:

  • Office 2007
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007

Installing OCR feature from SharePoint Designer 2007

1. Run the setup program to install SharePoint Designer.

2. Select the Customize option.

3. Follow the instructions for installation.

  • Installation Options: Select the Not available option for the following three sections:
    • Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer Shared
    • Components of Office
    • Office tools
  • Expand Office tools, display the Microsoft Office Document Imaging option and click Run all from my computer.

4. Click Install Now.

Microsoft Visual C++ installation

1. Run the vcredist_x86_2013.exe file.
