EV Observe - Instruction URLs
An instruction is a user-defined text or a clickable link automatically displayed when the status of a configuration item (CI) is not OK. This enables the operations team to process the incident faster and more efficiently.
- You can specify it in hosts and services.
- The URL link in the instruction is used to point to Web documentation containing the procedure to be followed in the event of an error.
- You can access instructions in the Details form of the CI and in notification emails. Click the URL to open the instruction in a new Web browser tab.
Best Practice
- Use the Modify the general information wizard or run an import to apply the same instruction to an entire group of CIs.

How to specify an instruction
Step 1: Select the company for which you want to specify the instruction
SelectCompanyInCompanyTree_Procedure
1. Go to the Web app.
2. Select the company from the company tree structure.
Notes:
- The selected company must be associated with a Box.
- You can create a new company. See the procedure
Step 2: Specify the instruction
1. Select Configuration > Services > List or Configuration > Hosts > List in the menu.
2. Select the relevant CI (host or service).
3. Specify the Instruction field found in the General Information tab.
4. Click Apply.
How to apply an instruction to an entire group of CIs
You can also run an import. See the procedure
Step 1: Select the company for which you want to apply the instruction

Step 2: Apply the instruction to an entire group of CIs
1. Select Configuration > Services > List or Configuration > Hosts > List in the menu.
2. Select the CIs where you want to apply the instruction.
3. Click More in the toolbar and select the Modify the general information wizard.
4. Specify the information for the instruction.
5. Click Apply.
The instruction will be applied to all of the selected CIs.
Step 3: Generate the Box to ensure the new instruction is taken into account
1. Generate the configuration of the Box by selecting Configuration > General > Loading in the menu.
The new instruction in the selected CIs will be taken into account by the Box.
