EV Observe - Use VMware Service Templates

A set of service templates dedicated to the monitoring of VMware environments enables you to deploy services quickly.

The service templates available depend on the configuration of the VMware environment:

  • The VMware data center is managed by a vCenter. In this case, information must be collected from the vCenter, namely from Space Utilization by Datastores, in order to ensure that it is up-to-date.
  • ESX hypervisors are not associated with a vCenter. In this case, information must be collected directly from the ESX host.

Service templates dedicated to the monitoring of VMware environments

Monitoring the vCenter

Service template Description
VMware vCenter Used to monitor the status of datastores and alarms for a VMware vCenter.
  • You must configure one service for each datastore.
VMware vCenter - ESX Used to collect information on host status and metrics from a VMware vCenter, e.g. vCenter connection status, latency, CPU, memory, health state, etc.
  • The name of the VMware host must be identical for both monitoring and the vCenter.
VMware vCenter - VM Used to collect information on virtual machine status and metrics from a VMware vCenter using the VMware Web service.
  • The name of the VMware host must be identical for both monitoring and the vCenter.
VMware vCenter - VM Status Used to collect information on virtual machine status from a VMware vCenter using the VMware Web service, e.g. configuration problems, vCenter connection status, operating system status, VMware Tools status.
  • The name of the VMware host must be identical for both monitoring and the vCenter.

Monitoring a standalone ESX host

Service template Description
VMware ESX Used to monitor a VMware ESX/ESXi hypervisor if it is not a member of a vCenter cluster.
VMware ESX - VM Used to monitor the virtual machines of a VMware ESX hypervisor if it is not a member of a vCenter cluster.
