EV Observe - Use GLOBAL-SNMP-OID Service Template

Last modified on 2024/01/09 18:17

The GLOBAL-SNMP-OID service template uses the generic plugin, check_snmp_oid, to collect information via SNMP, query a host using its OID and compare its value with warning and critical thresholds.

Performance data can be generated to create a chart.

Monitoring a new server

1. Search for the server OID in the supplier's management information base (MIB)

==> OID:

2. Analyze the server OID containing properties specific to the host

==> Retrieve information on disk space usage

  • The service template is used to query the OID of an MIB which will return a numerical value. It can be used for monitoring any element referenced in the host MIB.

Best Practice

  • To display two values or perform mathematical operations using multiple OIDs, you should use the Global-SNMP-Operation service template. This service template will perform one or two mathematical operations using multiple OIDs and return one or two results. A notification will be triggered when the result of the first calculation exceeds a specified threshold.
