Data Source Library


Apps - Manage datasources icon.png  The data source library contains all data source types that are used to create new data sources.

  • Data sources contain data from databases, files, third-party applications, etc.
  • This data is displayed in charts, tables, lists or reports via widgets pointing to the data sources.
  • Data source types are arranged by category.
  • Each data source has properties specific to its category.
  • Data sources include static data sources where data is fixed and dynamic data sources where data is automatically refreshed.

List of data source types

Standard category

Used to define static or dynamic data sources from composite data sources or database queries.

Icon Category | Functionality
Apps - Datasource - Composite icon.png Composite Used to combine information from several data sources.
Apps - Datasource - SQL Server icon.png MS SQL Server Used to retrieve data by running a query in a SQL Server database.
Apps - Datasource - MySQL icon.png Vimeo Used to retrieve data by running a query in a MySQL database.

Files category

Used to define static data sources from data available on a local server.

Apps - Datasource - CSV icon.png CSV Used to retrieve data from a CSV file.
Apps - Datasource - JSON icon.png JSON Used to retrieve content from a JSON file.

Online category

Used to define dynamic data sources from data available online or by interfacing with third-party products.

Apps - Datasource - CSV Online icon.png Online CSV Used to retrieve data from a CSV file.
Apps - Datasource - JSON Online icon.png REST Used to retrieve content from a JSON file.
Apps - Datasource - REST Connector icon.png REST (Connector) Used to retrieve content in JSON format using the resources configured for a connector.

Applications category

Used to define dynamic data sources from third-party applications.

Procedures

How to add a new data source

       Open url.png See Description of the graphic editor.

Step 1: Add a new data source.

1. Select the method for creating your new data source.

  • You can create a new data source.
    • Click Apps - Add datasource icon.png Add Data Source in the Objects pane.
      The types of data sources available will be displayed by category.

    • Click the data source type you want to create.

      Best Practice icon.png You can use the Apps - Search icon.png search field at the top of the Properties Inspector to filter data source types using their name.

       
  • You can also use an existing data source template.(Note: Except for composite data sources):
    • Click Apps - Manage datasources icon.png Data Sources in the Objects pane.
    • Click Apps - Duplicate icon.png next to the template.

2. Rename the new data source so you can identify it easily.
 

Step 2: Define the properties of the new data source.

1. Go to the relevant sections in the Properties Inspector.

2. Specify the properties of the new data source.

  • Modifications will automatically be taken into account and displayed in the Design pane for all widgets pointing to the data source.
  • The new data source will become available to all of the widgets in the app.

How to modify a data source

Step 1: Select the data source you want to modify.

  • Click Apps - Manage datasources icon.png Data Sources in the Objects pane.
  • Click the name of the data source.
    Note: Data sources pointing to an alias appear in bold.

    or

  • Go to the widget pointing to the data source you want to modify.
    The Properties Inspector will display information on the selected widget.
  • Click Apps - Edit icon.png next to the Data Source field.
    The Properties Inspector will display information on the selected data source.
     

Step 2: Modify the properties of the data source.

1. Go to the relevant sections in the Properties Inspector.

2. Modify the properties of the data source.
Modifications will automatically be taken into account and displayed in the Design pane for all widgets pointing to the data source.

How to delete a data source

Step 1: Select the data source to be modified.

1. Click Apps - Manage datasources icon.png Data Sources in the Objects pane.

2. Click the name of the data source.
Note: Data sources pointing to an alias appear in bold.
 

Step 2: Delete the data source.

1. Click Apps - Delete icon.png next to the data source.
